We want to pose the question to you, the audience! "Who is Beatty?"
Mad Life Imagined is a play where the main character Beatty never makes a physical appearance onstage. We hear her poetry, we see her art, but we never get to see her in person. Her physical absence onstage gives everyone watching the show the opportunity to picture Beatty in his/her/their way.
So now let us ask you, What does Beatty look like?
We asked people to read two poems from the Chapbook True Life imagined, "This Man White Coat" & "Grey Lady".
We then asked them to describe what they think Beatty looks like and draw us a picture!

In conclusion, how is one to know? Madness in its history had many phases of ambiguity. If you think about it, everyone's normal is different. So the question of who is crazy can't be defined well. Science tries to define it, artist tries to define it. It comes to a point where defining it leads everyone to think everyone's crazy or everyone's fine. Whether or not Beatty is Mad is a question that is up to interpretation.
We want to get more interpretations! The possibilities of Beatty's physicality could be endless!
