Mad Life Imagined is a play that is experienced in tandem with the book True Life Imagined. The book acts as a diary for Beatty's true story in her journey through estrange discoveries in poetry and art. Without her presence on stage her story is then told by her traditionalist parents, a quack psychiatrist, and her childhood friends. Her appalled parents seek a miracle from the psychiatrist; so he prescribes pills. Little do they know they do more harm than good.
