Artist Bertha Lee takes on the role of a rogue traveller on the wayside of moral obligation, part performance and new media project. A narrative driven sequence of “drop-offs” take place on May 22, 2017 across the city of London. Artifacts dropped off at liminal places creates the experience where pedestrians can find a CD, an Mp3 player or a link to a soundcloud track. They listened to a recording in the location it was recorded out of place, out of time, out of context. A play fair, as the public can engage with the narrative in a multitude of ways, via instagram, twitter/x, sound cloud, or by running into the rogue on their trek. Performance integrated with social media creates a digital footprint across the city of London, UK. City & Breadcrumbs reflects on the continuing struggle between belongings vs. artifacts, and how a rightful place is defined.
Programmed in The Expanded City curated but UAL Curation Society x Goldsmiths Visual Culture Society, Hoxton Basement, London, UK. May 22-25, 2017.
